Basmati rice is one of the aromatic varieties of rice.  

It has a sweet, nutty flavor.

RECIPE

Cinnamon Basmati Rice with Golden Raisins

Ingredients:
1 T unsalted butter
1 medium onion chopped
1/4 t ground cloves
1 t ground cinnamon
1 c basmati rice
1 bay leaf
1 cinnamon stick
2/3 c. golden raisins
1 t sea salt
1/4 t. coarse black pepper
2 c water

Melt butter in saucepan.  

Add onion, cloves, cinnamon and cook til onion translucent and fragrant.  
     
Rinse rice under cold water then add to butter and stir so rice is coated.  

Add remaining ingredients.  Bring to boil.
     
Cover and reduce heat.  Simmer til all water is absorbed, about 15-20 minutes for white/ 20-30 minutes for brown basmati.
     
Remove from heat and let stand, covered, 5 minutes.  

Adjust seasoning and serve.
