Rice is the staple
grain in many countries. But, rice isn’t just one variety of grain.
Rice
can be purchased brown, white, or red, long or short grain, sweet, arborio,
basmati, jasmine, wehani, japonica, and wild just to name a few.
Each type
of rice has a slightly different flavor and produce fantastic foods alone
and in combination with others.
Try them all and find the varieties you
like best.
To help with selecting the
right rice for the rice recipe please note that Sweet Rice is normally
used in Chinese and Oriental cooking and is known also as “Sticky”
rice. Japonica is also a “glutinous” rice. Arborio rice is used in
Italian recipes.
Basmati & Jasmine Rice are aromatic and should be
used in subtly seasoned recipes to avoid loss of the flavors.
RECIPE
BROCCOLI RICE CASSEROLE:
2 cups cooked rice
1/4 c. butter
1 onion chopped
1 c chopped broccoli, cooked and drained
2/3 c grated cheddar cheese
1/2 c. milk
Saute onion in butter.
And mix all ingredients together
in casserole.
Cover and bake at 350ºF for 45 min.
