fenugreek seed

Fenugreek's nutty
and slightly bitter flavor combines the taste of celery and maple.
Used mainly in Middle Eastern cooking. Fenugreek
is popular in most curries and chutneys. It enhances meats,
poultry, and marinated vegetables.
Fenugreek originated in the Mediterranean region during
ancient times and is among the oldest "medicinal" herbs.
It was prescribed for everything from tuberculosis to flagging sexual
desire.
In 1875 it was a major ingredient in
"THE GREATEST MEDICAL DISCOVERY SINCE THE DAWN OF HISTORY"
or so claimed Lydia E Pinkham's Vegetable compound. This concoction
was a remedy for "female complaints" and contained about 18%
alcohol too.
Modern wisdom has more specific uses for
fenugreek such as relieving intestinal gas and there seems to be some data
supporting the premise. | NutritionFacts per
