Barry Farm makes all of our "Sugar
Free" products with Xylitol. We settled on Xylitol as our sugar
substitute because it occurs naturally in nature and the body produces
some every day.
We also like it because it leaves NO
aftertaste and it is used as a one to one replacement for
Xylitol occurs naturally in straw,
corncobs, fruit, vegetables, cereals, mushrooms, and some seaweeds.
Xylitol is actually a sugar alcohol or
polyol and 2/3 of the Xylitol carbohydrates pass through the body without
needing insulin, thus qualifying as a sugar substitute.
Barry Farm Pie Filling is
made with whole fruit and its juice. You can see an abundance of
fruit in every jar.
Just put the contents of the jar in your favorite
crust. Top with a second crust. Seal. and bake at 350º F for
50-60 min until the crust is golden and flaky.
There is enough filling in each jar to fill an
8" pie abundantly, a 9" pie shell full, or to do 5-6 tarts.
Makes a great cobbler or crisp...just add topping. Or, use it on top
your favorite cheesecake, "torte" or ice cream.
